On the second day of the 2023 Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki India presented the Jimny and Fronx, two new SUVs. By increasing its position in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) sector, the automaker hopes to recapture 50% of the domestic passenger vehicle market share.
The products were unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023 by Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, who also noted that the company’s medium-term goal has been to recapture 50% of the market share and secure the top rank in the SUV category.
In the Indian market, he observed, there has been a sharp movement in consumer demand towards SUVs.
Takeuchi continued by stating that the company’s newly introduced SUVs, the Grand Vitara and Brezza, have gotten a thunderous response from the market and are experiencing high levels of client demand.
The 1.5-liter petrol engine used in the Brezza and Ertiga also powers the 5-door Jimny. Both a manual and automatic transmission gearbox are available for the Jimny. To compete with Mahindra’s Thar, it was created.
The Jimny off-roader will appeal to SUV buyers as well as enthusiastic and seasoned off-roaders. Powered by Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO (4WD) technology, the Jimny, which first debuted in 1970, has been shattering preconceptions all over the world owing to its distinctive look and ability to handle any terrain, per a news release from the company.
According to the manufacturer, it was designed to easily traverse hazardous terrain, go through deep forest, and overcome even the most difficult terrain. It also provides a smooth ride for regular driving.
Jimny Specifications
It has a ladder frame chassis, enough body angles, three-link rigid axle suspension, and ALLGRIP PRO (4WD) with low range transfer gear, which are the four components that make up an off-road vehicle (4L mode). Extreme off-road capability is provided by the ALLGRIP PRO to satisfy the driver’s desire of exploration. The SUV is designed to travel farther, higher, and deeper.
The driver may instantly switch from 2H two-wheel drive to 4H four-wheel drive thanks to the unique 4WD transfer case.
Jimny has a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connected infotainment system with a 22.86cm (9″) HD monitor. Premium audio acoustic tuning is another feature of the infotainment system, thanks to “Surround Sense” powered by “ARKAMYS.”
On the most difficult off-road terrains, the Jimny has the best torque and traction while in 4L (low range transfer gear) drive mode. According to a press release from the firm, “This true blue off-roader has been picked by specialists across the world who desire the toughness of a 4×4 with the agility of the Jimny.” Suzuki has retained this distinction for itself for 50 years.
Seven colour variations, including two dual-tone variants and five monochromatic tones, will be offered. It has the well-known Kinetic Yellow colour, which was first created to stand out in inclement weather.
Fronx Specifications
The Fronx is distinguished by its aerodynamic profile and lofty posture, which are enhanced by its upright front and rear facia, roof rails, and broad bonnet. SUV design cues like chiselled wheel arches, bulky fenders, and side body cladding highlight the Fronx’s athletic side.
The contrasting colour palette of black and bordeaux blends effortlessly with NEXA’s brand positioning. Similar to how the Fronx receives a particular forged metal-like matte finish on the dashboard to showcase its rough nature, which is further highlighted by high gloss silver inlays, the Fronx is designed to project a robust SUV image.
A 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters and a 5-speed manual transmission are both options for the Fronx with Turbo Booster jet engine. Moreover, customers have the choice of a 1.2L Advanced K-series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine with Idle Start Stop technology and a 5-speed manual or AGS gearbox.
A variety of connection technologies are included with the sporty small SUV Fronx, including a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, a Head Up Display with turn-by-turn navigation, Moreover, there is a 22.86-inch (9-inch) HD Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system that is wirelessly compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The infotainment system also offers excellent audio acoustic tuning via “Surround Sense” powered by “ARKAMYS,” providing distinctive ambiances designed to fit different emotions.
